Cenveo Acquires Printegra
Cenveo Inc. acquired Printegra Corp., a portfolio company of Huron Capital Partners LLC, in an all-cash transaction. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Printegra and its divisions, National Imprint Corporation and Synergy Label, offer custom short run printing solutions. Printegra generates annual revenues of approximately $90 million. The transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings in 2007. Printegra employs 780 people and operates 13 facilities across the United States.
Wright Imaging Purchases American Imaging Solutions
Wright Imaging Solutions, Portland, Ore., purchased American Imaging Solutions, also of Portland, according to the Portland Business Journal. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The acquisition creates one of the Northwest’s largest statement processing and print-on-demand centers exclusively serving the distributor community. Wright Imaging is a subsidiary of Wright Business Graphics, which acquired last year Industry, Calif.-based Cal Snap & Tab.
Cardinal Brands to Close Topeka Operations
Cardinal Brands will close its manufacturing operations in Topeka, Kan., by early next year, according to a story in the Lawrence-Journal World. The company will combine its Topeka operations with Cardinal’s existing research and development unit in the Kansas City metro area. Cardinal will move equipment from Topeka by the end of the first quarter of 2008, affecting as many as 60 jobs, the story said.
Standard Register to Close Two Facilities
Standard Register closed its digital printing facility in Cincinnati, and moved its 10 jobs to its Print On Demand Services Center in Dayton. The center will be a test site for digital printing presses, bindery equipment and workflow software, the company said. The company also is closing its facility in Middlebury, Vt. and transferring equipment and production operations to its Murfreesboro, Tenn., York, Pa. and Fayetteville, Ark., facilities. The Middlebury plant, which employs about 112 people, will continue to perform limited production through March. It’s been operating since 1965 and produces business forms. The company is providing affected employees with severance and job-finding assistance.
R.R. Donnelley to Lay Off 89 Employees
R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., which recently completed the $176 million purchase of Perry Judd’s, a Wisconsin printing company, notified the state that up to 89 people at Perry Judd’s headquarters offices may lose their jobs by March 26, according to a Jan. 30 story in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Neenah Paper to Acquire Fox River
Neenah Paper Inc. signed a definitive agreement to purchase the Fox Valley Corp., which owns Fox River Paper Company LLC. Fox River is a leading producer of premium fine papers, including STARWHITE, SUNDANCE, ESSE and OXFORD. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Closing is expected to occur in the first quarter.
IBM Sells Printing Division to Ricoh for $725M
IBM is selling its Printing Systems Division to Ricoh for $725 million, subject to regulatory approval. The companies announced they are forming a joint venture company, which will be called the InfoPrint Solutions Company. Ricoh initially will acquire 51 percent of the joint venture, and progressively acquire the remaining 49 percent over the next three years as the joint venture evolves into a fully owned subsidiary of Ricoh. IBM will receive $725 million in cash upon closing, which includes a management fee of $35 million. This is the latest move by IBM to rid the company of low-margin products.
MeadWestvaco, National Label Sign Marketing Deal
MeadWestvaco Corp. formed a marketing alliance with National Label Company, a printing and converting company that offers labeling solutions to the health and personal care industries. MeadWestvaco will utilize National Label’s labeling capabilities to enhance its packaging solutions by offering label products and applications. National Label will reach key markets through MeadWestvaco’s global presence and meet the escalating needs of customers in the pharmaceutical, consumer health and personal care industries.
Office Depot Q4 Profit Up 27 Percent
Office Depot Inc. said its fourth-quarter earnings rose 27 percent as the company cut operating costs and used promotions to drive holiday sales. Net income jumped to $135 million from $106.3 million a year ago. Earnings adjusted to exclude certain items were $151.7 million compared to $117.1 million in the 2005 quarter. Sales rose four percent to $3.84 billion from $3.72 billion. For the year, profit nearly doubled to $516 million.
Consolidated Graphics Reports Profit
Consolidated Graphics Inc. announced financial results for its third quarter ended Dec. 31. Revenue for the December quarter was $269.6 million, up 19 percent compared to a year ago. Net income for the December quarter was $16.4 million compared to net income of $9.9 million a year ago, a 65 percent increase. For the nine months ended Dec. 31, total revenue was $742.3 million, up 13 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Net income for the first nine months of this year was $43.8 million compared to net income of $28.0 million a year ago.
Deluxe Reports Q4 Profits
Deluxe Corp. said its fourth-quarter profits rose more than 20 percent. Income was $47 million for the fourth quarter compared with $39 million a year earlier. Revenue for the quarter was $427 million, down 1.2 percent from the prior year’s quarter. Full-year revenue was $1.64 billion, down from $1.71 billion.
Heidelberg Reports Profit
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG said its fiscal third-quarter profit more than tripled partly because it sold more presses in Germany and the United States. Net income through December was $146 million compared with approximately $43 million a year earlier. The company is already preparing for Drupa 2008 and will introduce new sheet-fed printers capable of small volumes at low cost to compete with digital printers.
International Paper Reports Profit
International Paper said its fourth-quarter earnings jumped due to the sale of some paper, packaging and wood products operations. The company posted a quarterly net profit of $2 billion compared with a net loss of $77 million in the year-ago period.
Astro-Dynamic Completes Purchase of Mr. Printer
Astro-Dynamic Print & Graphic Services, Warminster, Pa., recently completed the purchase of Mr. Printer Inc., Levittown, Pa. Astro-Dynamic Print & Graphic Services caters to small- to medium-sized companies. Mr. Printer delivered printing and graphics to the short run print market for more than 40 years.
Digital Earnings Drive Kodak Profits
Eastman Kodak Company reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $17 million. The company achieved $271 million in digital earnings for the fourth quarter, driven by wider gross profit margins and the company’s global cost-reduction initiatives. Eastman Kodak also delivered a $271 million increase in digital earnings for the full year. Significantly, digital earnings growth for the year exceeded the traditional earnings decline for the first time in the company’s history.
