*Steve Kula was named executive director of finance strategy, planning and forecasting at Appleton, Appleton, Wis. He works with Appleton’s senior management to develop the company’s short- and long-term strategic financial plans. Jeff Fletcher was named Appleton’s corporate controller.
*John French was hired as a health care account specialist at Webb/Mason in the Baltimore office. French is a 35-year veteran of the print industry, and specializes in managing health care-related forms and materials.
*Ralph Williams was named enterprise sales executive at Printable Technologies Inc., Solana Beach, Calif. Previously, Williams was national account director for AccuData America and has lectured about data and related services for the graphic arts industry at events sponsored by the DMA, HP, DSCOOP, PODi, VuePoint, DICE and others. In his new position, Williams focuses on VDP and direct mail.
Larry D. Foster was hired by Transcontinental Direct, Warminster, Pa., as a sales executive. He is based in Nashville, Tenn., and oversees business development in the region. Previously, Foster was a direct mail broker for 360 VCG, a sales executive for MailSouth, a sales and marketing director for Orblink/Unitel and a senior account executive for Capital City Communications. Currently, he is also a board member of the Jackson Advertising Federation, American Advertising Federation and the Memphis Advertising Federation.
Gavin Jordan-Smith was appointed vice president of marketing, commercial print and pre-press segments, at Xerox’s Worldwide Graphic Communications Industry Business, Stamford, Conn. Jordan-Smith has 15 years’ experience in the graphic communications industry in the United States and the United Kingdom. Previously, he was an executive at Toppan Printing Company America Inc., and has also worked for Global Document Solutions Corporation, Xerographic Reproduction Center, Wellgate Communications Limited and Kelvin Graphics Limited.
Catherine Martinelli was hired as vice president of West Coast operations at Global Document Solutions, New York City. She oversees integration of the Hayward, Calif. facility with the New York and Carlstadt, N.J., operations. She is also responsible for new business development and implementing customized document processing solutions. Previously, Martinelli was a Bay Area distributor for American Solutions for Business.
Volker Petersen was named CEO of Brown Printing, Waseca, Minn. Previously, Petersen was vice president of strategy and CIO at Prinovis. He started with parent company Bertelsmann/Gruner + Jahr AG in the printing division in 1988, and has worked in various capacities for Brown through his career.

*Irshad Ahmad was appointed to vice president of technology at Ennis, Midlothian, Texas, a new position. He is responsible for Ennis’ corporate IT department, the management and direction of the J.D. Edwards implementation team, and the company’s e-commerce development. Ahmad has served as head of technology for Alstyle Apparel since January 2001.
*Brad Willard was promoted to production manager at Wright Business Graphics, in Portland, Ore. Willard was formerly the special projects manager for the combined sales and customer service departments at the company. In his new position, he is responsible for managing all press production personnel at the Portland facility. He has more than 21 years’ industry experience. Carol Gibbs was promoted to production manager for the sales and customer service departments. She has more than 26 years’ experience in the industry, and recently served as the customer service manager.
Thomas Quinlan III was appointed president and CEO of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., Chicago. He was formerly CFO at the company. John Paloian, formerly president of the company’s Global Print Solutions, was appointed to COO.
Philip Faraci and James Langley, senior vice presidents at Eastman Kodak, Rochester, N.Y., were appointed to head the newly created chief operating office at the company. Faraci, Consumer Digital Imaging Group president, and Langley, Graphic Communications Group president, continue to lead their respective divisions. Antoinette McCorvey was named director of investor relations. She was previously vice president and director of finance at Kodak’s Consumer Digital Imaging Group. The executives are focusing on cutting costs and preparing for a restructuring next year.
Murray D. Martin was appointed president and CEO of Pitney Bowes, Stamford, Conn. He was also appointed to the board of directors. Michael Critelli, who formerly occupied that position, was promoted to executive chairman, a newly created position. Martin oversees the company’s performance with a focus on sustaining value for shareholders and customers. Critelli leads the focus on emerging opportunities, including postal reform and transformation in the United States and abroad, in areas such as health care, government services and corporate social responsibility.
CORRECTION
In the People department of the May issue, we should have reported that Gina Holt was promoted to vice president of business development and sales for Ward/Kraft Inc. She previously served as director of MIS and software development.
IN MEMORIAM
Kenneth L. Sherman, CFC, former president of Specialty Business Forms, Kalamazoo, Mich., passed away in early March. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August 2006, and was cared for by daughter-in-law Carolyn Sherman, a registered nurse. A longtime member of DMIA, Sherman was one of the first industry members to be a certified forms consultant. He approached new business ideas with relish, such as warehousing, on-site artwork, fulfillment and catalog/telephone sales. He was involved in the company until late last summer when, at the age of 73, he was unable to continue. His son, Dan Sherman, is the new president of the company. “We have received a lot of great comments from his longtime customers and friends about his professionalism and always being there when challenges cropped up,” Sherman said.
