Boise Paper, Boise, Idaho received two industry awards from Buyers’ Laboratory Inc., an independent office products test lab. The Boise X-9 20-lb. paper, 8.5 x 11-inch multipurpose sheets, received the “2007 Performance Certified” seal of approval for the third year in a row. More than three million sheets of the product were run through 70 different office devices from 20 manufacturers. Boise’s ASPEN 20-lb. copy paper, including 30 percent post-consumer recycled fiber, received a “2007 Performance Certified” seal of approval, after 800,000 sheets were tested on 47 devices from 12 manufacturers.

Stora Enso Specialty Papers, Stevens Point, Wis., introduced EcoSet, a new wet-strength label paper, specifically designed for PET water bottles, a recyclable synthetic fiber. The paper is offered in 43 lb., 46 lb. and 49 lb. weights and features a high-fidelity print surface that’s opaque when wet.

Hammer Packaging, Rochester, N.Y., received a silver award for management excellence in the National Association for Printing Leadership 2006 Management Plus awards program. Entrants are judged on how they perform against industry standards in nine key areas: internal control systems, financial performance, marketing/sales plan, business planning, HR, environmental/ safety, quality control, industry affairs and vendor relations.

HumanEyes, New York, introduced LensFree, software that produces 3D effects directly on non-lenticular materials, such as glass or acrylic. The company has tested the technology on UV digital flatbed printers. Using a flatbed press, a grid is printed on one face of the glass, and an interlaced project is printed on the opposite side. The grid, the thickness of the glass and the interlace yield an image that appears 3-dimensional.

Canon U.S.A., Lake Success, N.Y., introduced two new presses: The imageCLASS MF4690, designed for small offices of single or networked users. The machine offers options for users to scan to email, file, fax or output to USB memory ports in jpeg, tiff or high-compression pdf formats. The unit also functions as a copier. The imageRUNNER 5075/5065/5055, which features imageCHIP (concurrent hyper intelligent platform) architecture. This high-speed machine, suited to larger office environments, offers fast warmup/recovery times, a large paper capacity and high volume.
