PROMOTIONS
Phil Farchione was promoted to vice president of sales and marketing of supplier Valéron Strength Films, Houston. He's responsible for overseeing the company's sales, marketing and customer service activities. Farchione, who joined the company in 1998, has more than 13 years of experience in the tag, label and narrow web industries. Previously, he served Avery Dennison Corp.'s Fasson Roll North America division.
Bob Whitesell was appointed president and CEO of manufacturer Corvest Promotional Products Inc., Largo, Fla. He will continue his responsibilities as president and CEO of Toppers Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Corvest, which he has served for three years. Previously, Whitesell served as president and COO of Norwood Promotional Products Inc. Keith Olivit, CAS, who had served dual roles as president and CEO of Corvest and its subsidiary Adva-Lite Inc., now serves Adva-Lite exclusively.
Stephen C. Schuster was appointed president of Glen Cove, N.Y.-based supplier Konica Graphic Imaging International Inc. He replaces Dr. Toshio Nagatani, who now serves Konica Corp.'s Research and Design Group in Japan. Schuster is responsible for Konica Graphic Imaging International's activities in North America and South America. He also maintains his previous responsibilities as president of Konica Graphic Imaging USA, the sales and marketing arm of Konica Graphic Imaging International.
Olga Kazakova was promoted to marketing manager of distributorship BARON®, Oakland, Calif. She's responsible for marketing parent companies Empire Paper® and BARON, as well as the companies' e-commerce service, BARONdirect®. She's also responsible for leading BARON's short and long-term business development objectives in various market segments. Previously, she led marketing efforts for BARONdirect.
NEW HIRES
Douglas Clott was named executive vice president of sales and marketing of EMCO Printers Inc., a commercial printer in Everett, Mass. He's responsible for setting marketing strategy and directing EMCO's sales force in providing customized commercial printing solutions primarily to companies in New England. Previously, Clott served as vice president of sales and marketing at Karat Digital Press, and held several marketing management positions at Scitex Corp.
Anthony Malak was appointed vice president of operations of mailing systems supplier Francotyp-Postalia Inc., Addison, Ill. He's responsible for management and financial accountability of the company's operations in the United States and for daily coordination of all customer services representatives and warehouse personnel. Prior to joining Francotyp-Postalia, he served as vice president and general manager of distribution at Educational Publishing Corp., as operations director there, and as warehouse coordinator for Nalco Chemical Corp.
Kathy Willett joined Chicago-based label and specialty products manufacturer GPA as territory sales manager for customers in the East. Previously, she served more than 13 years in fine paper sales at Williamshouse/Old Colony Envelope. Tom Freeman was named territory sales manager for portions of the East and Midwest. Previously, he served Case Papers. Adam Payne was named territory sales manager for northern California. Previously, he served Moore North America.
Clay Oliff joined Westmont, Ill.-based supplier MAN Roland Inc.'s Eastern Region Sales and Service organization as a sales representative for West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. With more than 20 years of graphic arts experience, Oliff most recently served as a sales and service consultant for a roller manufacturer. Previously, he operated his own training firm.

Paul Donald Landis, 58, an account executive at the Dallas office of manufacturer Crabar Business Systems, Dayton, Ohio, died Feb. 10 at his home in Plano, Texas. He was a 40-year industry veteran. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Landis; three sons, Scott Landis of Tipp City, Ohio, Thaddeus King of Groton, Mass., and Christopher King of Plano, Texas; daughter Lisa Peterson of Memphis, Tenn.; mother Roxie Crowell of Arcanum, Ohio; sister Carolyn Kemmerly of Irving, Texas; brother Michael Landis of Brookville, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Gregory Peterson, Mark Peterson, Conner King and Emma King. Services were held Feb. 13 at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 560089, Dallas, TX 75356-0089.
Robert J. Whitaker, 61, Southwest regional sales manager at the Houston office of manufacturer DSFI, Addison, Ill., died Feb. 10. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marsha Whitaker; two daughters and their families, Michelene, Paul and Tyler Davis, and Heather, Darrin and Regan Harris; brother Bill Whitaker; and in-laws Margaret and Louis Somers. Services were held Feb. 14 at Saints Simon & Jude Catholic Church, The Woodlands, Texas.
