Concord Litho, Concord, N.H., introduced interactive scent card inserts. The promotional pieces are available in six fragrances, including Oreo cookie and new car, and were designed for an April issue of TV Guide to promote a popular sitcom. The scents were connected to key points in one of the show’s episodes for a cross-media campaign. The inserts are made on a heat-set web press using clear inks with oil capsules.

GPA, Chicago, introduced ultra digital pre-converted forms. These forms, a self-mailer and a #10 envelope, are designed for Indigo presses. The self-mailer is printed on 80# white matte text in 18-inch by 12-inch sheets, and is trimmed, folded and pressure-sealed. The envelope is constructed with 80# white matte text.

Checkpoint Systems, Thorofare, N.J. introduced Evolve, a patent-pending dual function EAS-EPC label system. These Gen-2 tags are compatible with radio frequency and electronic article surveillance systems for inventory management. The solution is designed for incremental changeover to RFID, and the patent-pending labels operate in the UHF band of 860 to 960 MHz, and at 8.2 MHz for RF-EAS systems. The Evolve labels are customizable.

Henkel, Düsseldorf, Germany, introduced hotmelt for pressure-sensitive labels, designed for prime label use. The Technomelt 8707 hotmelt holds the label firmly in place in high-stress situations, such as on shampoo bottles or dishwashing detergent. The labels are clear and can be die-cut and applied to PP and PE bottles

Sleever International, Morangis, France, introduced a decorative UV-barrier Sleever, which is a transparent label that protects light-sensitive beverages in transparent bottles. The label prolongs shelf life and preserves the product, the company says, and is a heat-shrink mono-oriented film capable of blocking UV rays. Printed in up to 10 colors on both sides, the film can be implemented at speeds of 15,000 to 30,000 bottles per hour.

Neopost Inc., Hayward, Calif., introduced PrintMachine Office Plus, mail output management software. The application is designed to accelerate and enhance the preparation and printing of business documents for mailing jobs. Customers with a Neopost folder inserter system can offer enhanced security of documents and postage savings with the software.

Mailing software

LG Phillips, Seoul, South Korea, introduced flexible color A4-size e-paper. The 14.1-inch paper uses electronic ink from E-Ink Corp. to produce a maximum of 4,096 colors and can be viewed from 180 degrees, so that images appear crisp even when the paper is bent. The substrate arranges thin-film transistors on metal foil so it can resume original shape after bending.

SERVICES
IWCO Direct purchased two Drent Goebel Vision web offset presses for its Elm City, N.C. facility. Both machines have 10 print towers and inline finishing capabilities. One machine is equipped with heat set curing and the other with UV curing. The addition enables the company to offer a total package solution for direct mail campaigns, the company says.

Color City, Compton, Calif., installed a six-color Mitsubishi Diamond 1000LS sheetfed press, which will increase the printer’s capacity and product diversity, the company says. The 28-inch press is the company’s first machine equipped with an inline aqueous coating unit.

Bliss Communications, Janesville, Wis. purchased a QuadTech register guidance system with multicam and a QuadTech ribbon control system with multicam. The systems will be installed on the company’s KBA Comet this year, and will allow the printing division to expand into commercial printing, the company says.
