A Brand New Day

I don't have any New Year's resolutions. There's no list that says beginning Jan. 1, I just have to exercise more, watch less TV, be more patient and better organized, and cut down on coffee and chocolate.

That's because a few years ago, I decided that every day I would pursue my passion, follow my dreams, strive to achieve my goals and not give up. In 1992, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science engineering at Bangalore Institute of Technology in India, but longed to be a journalist. Journalism was (and is) my dream profession that lets me write, question, investigate and analyze to my heart's content. Switching careers was hard, but believing in myself made it possible. I succeeded. Since then, believing and doing are daily activities.

In my two years covering the printing industry, I found that successful companies, too, have a can-do attitude. Most firms believe in their employees, customers and capabilities, and do whatever it takes to grow and profit--every day. It's not just the beginning of a new year that brings them a fresh dose of determination and energy. I hope all our readers have a successful 2005.

Print Solutions is here to help. We'll include cover stories on transforming your company (February), technology case studies (March), e-commerce triumphs (May), marketing (July), supply-chain partnerships (September), and boosting your sales (November). You also can rely on our Top 100 Manufacturers (April) and Top 100 Distributors (June) lists, the Official Print Solutions Conference & Expo Show Guide (August) and the Annual Buyers' Guide (October) for vital information.

What better way to start the year than to take a snapshot of where the industry is today? Our cover story this month is the annual State of the Industry Report, "The Need for Speed," beginning on page 26. End users demand customized products with ultra-fast turnaround, and many fast-growing printing firms meet those needs by partnering and understanding technologies.

Have a happy, profitable 2005!
